University of the Immaculate Conception Recognized as Plastic-Free School in Davao City
The University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) has been recognized as one of the Plastic-Free Schools in Davao City by the Interfacing Development Interventions for Sustainability (IDIS). IDIS is a non-profit environmental and conservation advocacy organization focused on protecting watersheds in South Central Mindanao.
This recognition is a testament to the efforts of the UIC community in promoting environmental sustainability. The Office of Student Affairs and Services, under the leadership of Director Anaflor E. Sacopayo, along with the University Student Government led by Charles Andre F. Nieves, played a significant role in this achievement. Their initiative, the “No to Single-Use Plastic Policy,” was adopted by the entire institution even before the No to Single-Use Plastic Ordinance of Davao City was enacted.
UIC remains committed to reducing waste generation and contributing to the protection of the environment. This recognition serves as a reminder of the importance of collective action in achieving sustainability goals.
