About Basic Education Department
The K to 12 Program is an educational reform program of the government to enhance the Philippines Basic Education System by strengthening its curriculum and increasing the number of years of basic education. The program covers Kindergarten to 12 years of basic education (six years of Grade School, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship
UIC’s Basic Education is aligned with the K to 12 program, which starts with Pre-School for the very young’s growth and holistic development through academic and character formation that combines perceptual skills, fine and gross motor skills, and cognitive development
The Grade School program is anchored on its signpost: Commitment to the Academic Resource Enhancement (CARES), while the Junior and Senior High School programs stem from its signposts: Learn, Excel, Archive, Develop character and Serve (LEADS) whose learners have a BIG (Brilliant Innovative God-fearing) HEART, enlightened and empowered to Harness Excel Act, Respect, and Transform the society. With these, young people are propelled to higher goals and achieve a wisely chosen college course. Under this program, UIC aims to be the premier pre-college education provider in Region XI.
Consistent with its role as a dynamic Catholic educational institution equipped to respond to the global challenge of change that envisions progress, the UIC K to 12 program endows learners with the knowledge and 21st-century skills as well as the right habits of mind needed to thrive in our transforming world. Thus, they are better prepared for life and become globally competitive, exemplifying attributes of leaders with character.
