UIC Alumnus Wins EU-Philippines Logo Competition

The University of Immaculate Conception (UIC) continues to uphold its vision of building a passion for excellence as it celebrates the success of one of its talented alumni, Mr. Julie Ar Sibala, who emerged as the winner of the prestigious EU Delegation Logo Contest.

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of EU-PH relations in 2024, the EU Delegation to the Philippines launched a Logo Contest. Mr. Sibala drew inspiration from the European Union’s unwavering support for the Philippines, even during times of crisis, as he crafted his design. This concept was translated through the use of the infinity symbol. He further explained,

“Reaching 60 years of partnership is a significant milestone, and I aim to symbolize it by incorporating the infinity symbol. This symbol not only represents infinity but also conveys the idea of endless opportunities for both parties. If you observe, the dominance of blue in the logo is intentional. I wanted to emphasize that despite the issues and crises we have faced, EU delegations remain steadfast, offering their socioeconomic aid and programs.”

The chosen logo will be the official emblem for all EU Delegation communication materials during the 60th EU-PH anniversary year. Mr. Sibala remarks that the recognition elevated his position as a creative professional and revealed exciting new possibilities in graphic design. He described the recognition as “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for an ordinary young artist like me.”

It was unveiled during a captivating lighting ceremony on the globe at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City from January 12 to 19, 2024, marking a memorable event in the history of EU-PH relations.

Mr. Sibala started his journey in graphic design during his first year of college. He developed an interest in the field and delved into diverse design applications. He eventually dedicated himself to mastering their intricacies, creating visually appealing posters and graphics for school-related projects and freelance opportunities.

He is currently a faculty member in the university’s College of Humanities and the International Ranking Engagement Coordinator.
