Message from the Dean

Welcome to UIC ND/HRM/TM Program webpage! As the Dean of the Program, it is such a pleasure to provide you information about our the three (3) degree programs we offer, namely, BS in Nutrition and Dietetics (BSND), BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management (BSHRM) and BS in Tourism Management (BSTM).

The BS in Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly BS in Foods and Nutrition) was offered by the university in 1976. Being the only university in the region which offers BSND, it has produced nutritionist-dietitians working in the hospitals or health care institutions, food service industry, academe and public health throughout the country and abroad. Since its establishment, the program has produced topnotchers in the board. In the last two (2) years, Ms. Gracielle Ma. Rosette Enobio and Ms. April Rica Laput topped as 6th placer in 2013 and 5th placer in 2014, respectively. Following the mandates of CMO 54 s. 2006 BSND curriculum, UIC enhanced its program with Culinary Arts, Thesis and Special Topics. To date, UIC BSND is the only program in the country which enhanced its curriculum with Pharmacology.

In 2006, the BS HRM was opened. The program has equipped hospitality graduates who have either worked in the industry here and abroad or ventured into business. The university has partnered with hotels and restaurants to accommodate students for practicum or on-the-job training. Aside from the local hospitality industry partners, many graduates of the program have realized their dreams through the US Work and Travel Program adopted by the university. Hundreds of UIC BS HRM graduates had the chance to travel and work in the United States of America. It also became their initial step to being accepted as interns and trainees and eventually employed in the US. The program has also won in many local and national competitions. It provides opportunities for students to showcase talents and skills through its annual intra-school competition called Open House. The activity also aims to promote the program to its stakeholders especially the basic education students.

One of the newest programs offered by the university is BSTM accepting students since June 2014. It is very promising that it has attracted (47) forty-seven quality freshmen students.

The ND/HRM/TM Program assures the provision and promotion of high-quality education for the preparation of competent and integrated nutrition, hospitality and tourism industry professionals. The program further ensures quality through embracing the Outcomes-Based Education curriculum and PAASCU accreditation.
