Thank you for visiting our website. We encourage you to join us on this fantastic journey to form and impact the healthcare industry both the local and global markets. Find time to explore our website and discover all that the Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science (MT/MLS) Program of the University of the Immaculate Conception, Davao City, Philippines has to offer.
The University of the Immaculate Conception, formerly known as Immaculate Conception College, first offered Medical Technology in June 1963. The Medical Technology Program was given Government Recognition Number 264 as a four-year Technical Technology course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology effective July 3, 1967. This was granted by the Department of Education as per approval of then Secretary of Health Carlos P. Romulo. The Medical Technology Program of ICC was able to produce its first batch of graduates in March 1967. As of March 2015, the University has produced a total of 48 batches of Medical Technology graduates.
Medical laboratory scientists have the best of both worlds: medicine and science. MLS performs laboratory tests used to uncover and diagnose diseases. Physicians rely upon their knowledge and skill and count on them to perform essential patient laboratory tests. The MT/MLS Program is one of the health science programs of UIC. Its main objective is to develop competent medical laboratory scientists and to meet the demands for proficient manpower in the healthcare service with the use of highly innovative technologies. The curriculum is school-based learning focused on the different principles employed in the discipline and importantly on the critical and analytical thinking abilities of the learner.
UIC MT/MLS Program prepares its graduates for employment in hospital, urgent care, physicians’ offices, research, and industry laboratory settings and even in the academe. Examination and analysis of body fluids, tissues and cells play a crucial role in a physician’s ability to diagnose and treat disease. Students are trained to work in various areas of a clinical laboratory, including hematology, urinalysis, immunohematology (blood bank), microbiology and chemistry. Students collect blood samples, work with state-of- the-art clinical laboratory instrumentation, perform chemical and microscope analysis of urine, feces, match blood for transfusion, identify abnormal blood cells under the microscope and identify infectious bacteria-causing infection in various body locations. Upon completion of the accredited program, graduates are expected to take and pass the board examination set by the Philippine Professional Regulation Commission to become a Registered Medical Technologists and exercise fully their degree.
Thus, If you are a parent or a student and looking for an innovative, caring, and world-class environment, we invite you to explore our bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science Program, the Top 1 performing school during the September 2014 Medical Technology board examination and a consistent producer of board topnotchers. We assure you that our graduates are cared for, carved and shaped through our Ignacian core values of FAITH, EXCELLENCE and SERVICE and nurtured through the University’s College Signpost – IGNITES (Integrated,God-centered,Nationalistic,Innovative,Transformative, Excellence and Service).
