MED LAB STUDENT COPS 2ND PLACE IN ORAL SPEECH TILT

1609938_812379395485731_2877021317767459451_nJudy Anne Dalumpines, a second year Medical Laboratory Science student earned Second Place (Tertiary level) together with her oration coach, Miss Ma. Juliet Vasay from the Liberal Arts program during the 12th Oratorical Contest organized and coordinated by the Davao Historical Society Foundation, Inc. (DHSFI), Department of Education XI-Davao City Schools Division, Commission on Higher Education-XI and Museo Dabawenyo last October 29, 2014 at the City Library, 3rd floor Sangguniang Panlungsod, San Pedro St., Davao City.

The contest was participated by different secondary and tertiary schools within the city. With the topic, “The Danger of Drugs… A Societal Ill” (Tertiary level), Miss Dalumpines conveyed the strong implication on the detrimental effects of abusing drugs on the personal, familial and societal aspects of an individual. On the other hand, Miss Sypth Mary Basalo, also a second year student from the Engineering and Architecture program contributed the piece used by the student-orator and earned herself a behind-the-scenes recognition. The two remarkable students are yet to meet.

The oratorical contest on its 12th year is an annual competition open to all students from the secondary and tertiary levels. The distinguished members of the judging panel include Dr. Pilar C. Braga, Dr. Marina B. Ruvivar and Pastor Luis R. Moran. Hon. Rene Elias C. Lopez, the 3rd District Councilor of Davao City gave an inspirational talk that encouraged more student-orators to actively engage with these same activities and help raise youth involvement and literacy.

The UIC representative received cash prize, medal and certificates. A total of 6 college students joined the said contest.
