UIC-EA Tops 7th Engineering Congress; Bags 7 Major Awards

UIC dominates the 7th Engineering Congress of the Council of Deans of Engineering Education

(CODEE) Region XI by bagging seven major awards: 4 in Design Project category; 1 in Scientific research

poster; 2 in Mr. and Ms. Engineering Pageant, last March 11-12, 2015 held at Gaisano Mall of Tagum,

Tagum City.

The “3D Prototype Printer”Project by Kristian Marc Albos, Aries Othniel Ferrer, Arn Derick Pasola

and Vincent Singcol, all 5th year Computer Engineering students was hailed champion for the Commercial

category with high distinction from the judges for achieving the highest rating out of all design projects.

Other major awards include: Champion, “Robotic arm Exoskeleton Controller”

(Industrial/Biomedical category) by Francis Dennis Acquiat, Sylvester Louie Dumagan, Kymm Al exis Paña

and Joniel Jansen Tesara; 1

strunner-up, ”Unmanned Lawn mower” ( Agricultural category) by Nikko Adriel

Dongalo, Marben Labonete and Rowel Legal; 2nd runner-up, “Scantron (Optical answering sheet)

Dispenser” (Educational category) by Melchor Garcia, Jezzaline Joy Ocon and Anna Vieve Trazona; 2nd

runner-up, “Automated PCB Drilling Machine” (Industrial category) by Ryan James Armada, Gerard Jess

Obligacion and Raj Torremocha; 2nd runner-up among 17 contenders, “Rainwater Treatment System”

(Scientific research poster) by Harly Me Segovia, Danica Wyn Estomata, Christine Joy Concepcion and

Janice Raganas; 2nd runner-up, Mr. Engineering 2015, Lloyd Camino; and Most Eloquent Award, Ms.

Engineering 2015, Glazylyn Palo.

Albos shared that their inspiration in coming up with theirproject is their parents. Also,theydidn’t

expect to win on the said exhibit considering the number of entries, hence they still joined for they

believed that it is a good opportunity and a once in a lifetime experience. When asked of few tips he could

give to next year’s batch, Albos pointed this: “Always believe in yourselves and in your project. Never lose

hope and always trust and pray to God, for He will always find a way.”

The two-day event was participated by different Engineering schools namely: University of the

Immaculate Conception, headed by the Program Dean and Secretary of CODEE-XI, Engr. Emma

Concepcion Fuentes, University of Mindanao Tagum Campus and St. Mary’s College of Tagum, which

served as the Host schools for this year’s congress, Ateneo de Davao University, University of Mindanao

Main Campus, University of Southeastern Philippines, Holy Cross of Davao College, St. John Paul II College

of Davao, MATS school of Technology, STI, and many more.

Engineering Congress is an annual event done and participated by the Council of Deans

of Engineering Education and various Engineering schools.
